How can we add a new track in GP4?

Introduction

The Grand Prix 4 game contains initialy 17 tracks, called « original tracks ».

GP4 cannot contain more than 17 tracks at the same time. It means that the new tracks, also called « additional tracks », will replace the original ones. They will use the same filenames than the original tracks.

Where are the « tracks » in my GP4 directory?

On the hard drive, they are materialized by 2 files, indivisible for the game to work correctly:

– a .WAD file
It is located in the installation directory of your game.
For example: For the Sepang track, the .WAD file is SEPANG2001.WAD

– a .DAT file
It is located in the /circuits/ directory, which is in the installation directory of your game.
For example: For the Sepang track, the .DAT file is S1CT02.DAT

How to replace an original track by an additionnal track?

Step 1

Backup the .DAT file and the .WAD file of the original track you are going to replace.

Because the files of the new track will have the same name than the files of the original track you will replace, if you don’t backup, they will be erased.

A quick method is just to rename them.

Step 2

– Copy the .WAD file of the additional track in the installation directory of your Grand Prix 4 game. If you have well done the step 1, it must not replace any file.

– Copy the .DAT file of the additional track in the /circuits/ directory, which is in the installation directory of your Grand Prix 4 track. If you have well done the step 1, it must not replace any file.

How to race on this new track?

– Start GP4.
– In the tracks list, the tracks names are not changed, even if one or several original tracks have been replaced. In this list, select the original track which has been replaced.
– Let’s go!

Problems…

The game crashes during the loading of the game

You have not installed correctly the 2 .WAD and .DAT files. Check their presence in the installation directory of GP and in /circuits/. By default, start again the procedure.

The game loads correcly, but it crashes sometimes
